If you are at least in 3rd Grade, but not yet in the 6th Grade, then you are a Discovery Ranger. As a Discovery Ranger you will begin to learn some great outdoor skills like tool craft, rope craft, fire craft, and first-aid skills. You will also learn lessons from 24 Books of the bible by the time you finish. A Discovery Ranger will be able to participate in Outpost Camp-outs and other overnight adventures. If you were promoted from Ranger Kids into Discovery Rangers, you should have completed the necessary Discovery Ranger recruit requirements as one of your last tasks as a Ranger Kid. Your Discovery Ranger records or Handbook will contain the information verifying that he has completed the recruit requirements. Ranger Basics

Before a Discovery Ranger can earn an advancement patch or medal, he must complete the following Ranger Basics:

• Be in at least third grade
• Complete the Royal Ranger Charter form
• Complete the outpost medical information and parents' medical waiver
• Recite the pledge to the United States flag
• Recite the pledge to the Christian flag
• Recite the Royal Ranger Pledge
• Recite the meaning of the four red points of the Royal Ranger Emblem
• Recite the meaning of the four gold points of the Royal Ranger Emblem
• Recite the meaning of the eight blue points of the Royal Ranger Emblem
• Recite the Royal Ranger Motto
• With the boy's parents or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet Preventing Child and Substance Abuse: A Parent's Guide. (Included with the Discovery Rangers Handbook.)

Merits

Discovery Rangers earn advancement patches and medals by completing Red and Blue merits and the descriptions for those merits will be found in the following files:
